For me, researching and learning about the Nephilim has been fascinating. With all the plausible possibilities, it has been difficult for me to determine where I stand. In the previous blogs, we have looked at the Sethite view, the Fallen Men view, the Fallen Angels view. In this post, we will look at one final, common viewpoint of the Nephilim. It is the Fallen Angels Overtakes Men Theory.
This standpoint says that angels fell from heaven and possessed men on earth, who then bred with women. Their offspring were the Nephilim, and they were giants. In this view, the angels that fell were considered “the sons of God” referred to in Genesis 6. In this way, it is similar to the Fallen Angels Theory. However, in the Fallen Angels Overtook Men Theory, the Nephilim offspring are completely human.
Problems with Fallen Angels Overtook Men
Straight away, this view becomes problematic. It seems like an oxymoron to believe that “sons of God” could be susceptible to demonic possession. And even more doubtful they would then be deemed “the sons of God.” There is no biblical account to support this theory regarding this problem.
The one problem this theory does solve, though, is that with men being demonically possessed, it is plausible that, even after the flood, the Nephilim could return. But, if this is true, then why even have a flood? And why have a term “Nephilim” if there was nothing special about them that made them stand out, unless they were indeed giants?
Personal Views on the Fallen Angels Overtook Men View of Nephilim
While some scholars think this theory has weight, I am most skeptical of this view out of all four that I have represented. Having said that, in my next post, I would like to share my own personal beliefs, at this point, of the Nephilim. It combines some of these views. I call it the Expanded Theory.
Much research, time, meditation and prayer have gone into the development of my theory, and I am excited to compile it all together for you next time. Until then, if this topic excites you, get on board and do some investigating. Be sure to examine your findings to see if they are in line with Scripture.
